Astigmatismo

El astigmatismo es un defecto ocular por el cual la visión se torna borrosa debido a la incapacidad de las partes ópticas del ojo ( córnea y cristalino) de enfocar un objeto en forma nítida en la retina. El mismo puede ser causado por una curvatura irregular (deformación) de las superficies de la córnea o cristalino. Un astigmatismo irregular es a menudo causado por cicatrices corneales o cicatrices en el cristalino y no puede ser corregido por lentes correctores que habitualmente se utiliza para un astigmatismo común (deformación de superficie de las partes ópticas); sin embargo puede ser subsanado por lentes de contactos especiales.

El error refractivo del ojo astigmático deriva de la diferencia de grado en la curvatura de refracción de los dos meridianos diferentes. Por ejemplo la imagen puede ser claramente enfocada en la retina en el plano horizontal, pero no en el vertical. El astigmatismo causa dificultad para ver detalles finos, y en algunos casos las líneas verticales puede aparecerle al paciente estar inclinadas. Las partes ópticas astigmadas del ojo humano a menudo puede ser corregidas con lentes comunes o de contactos, los cuales tienen una óptica compensatoria, o lentes cilindricos, como así también por cirugía refractiva.

Trabeculectomía

En oftalmología, la trabeculectomía es un procedimiento quirúrgico aplicado en el tratamiento del glaucoma para aliviar la presión intraocular quitando parte de la red trabecular del ojo y estructuras adyacentes. Es la cirugía más común para el tratamiento del glaucoma. La trabeculectomía permite el drenaje del humor acuoso desde dentro del ojo hacia la parte inferior de la conjuntiva donde es absorbida.

Este procedimiento se lo realiza comunmente bajo anestesia monitoreada utilizando un block retrobular o peribulbar, o una combinación de anestesia topica y subtenoniana. Para llevar a cabo una trabeculectomía se realiza una perforación en la porción más externa del ojo o esclerótica, hasta llegar a un espacio del interior del órgano de la visión que se llama cámara anterior. Por este nuevo conducto creado por la cirugía se consigue que drene hacia el exterior el humor acuoso.
